- We have release a program CPUIDF.EXE which identifies the type
- of Intel microprocessor your PC contains. It will also tell you
- whether or not your Pentium (tm) processor has the floating point
- divide flaw.
-
- The program is available at
- http://www.intel.com/product/pentium/cpuidf.exe
- ftp://ftp.intel.com/pub/IAL/pentium/cpuidf.exe and cpuidf.txt
- It is also available on our CompuServe forums (GO INTELForum and
- GO INTELA).
-
- Background
- There are numerous methods of detecting the presence or absence of the
- FDIV flaw on the net. While these methods are accurate in most cases,
- software workarounds, such as disabling the FPU or the recently released
- FDIV patch, can result in the wrong answer.
-
- The CPUIDF program uses the Pentium processor's CPUID instruction to
- identify the processor's stepping. It is therefore reliable regardless of
- the presence of software workarounds.
